Women's Volleyball Drops Opening Two Matches to the 2023 Campaign

BOCA RATON, FL - FDU Women's Volleyball (0-2) began their season with a two-match day. The Knights lost the opening morning match against the University of Missouri Kansas City (1-0) 3-1 (22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 19-25). Following a brief rest, FDU dropped the second match to Holy Cross (1-1) in four sets 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 18-25, 23-25) at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena.

How It Happened
Set 1
  • FDU closed the gap with a big ace from R. Fucka (21-24), followed by a kill from Nott to bring the score close at 22-24, but ultimately lost the set 22-25.

Set 2

  • The Roos had an early lead and maintained it throughout.

Set 3

  • FDU started the set tied at 5-5 before UMKC went on a three-point run to take the lead. At 18-13, FDU went on a five-point run to close the gap, tying the score at 18-18. Sofia Rampazzo ended set three with a kill, resulting in a score of 25-23.

Set 4

  • The Roos started with an eight-point run, leading 2-8. The Knights closed the gap to 3 at 16-19 but fell short in the end, with the final score being 25-19.

Set 1

  • The Knights played a closely contested set, with both teams neck and neck. Bain secured a kill to tie the score at 25-25. FDU applied pressure, and two errors from Cross led to an FDU victory with a score of 27-25.

  • FDU opened the fourth set with a slight lead early 10-7
  • Following a brief spurt by the Crusaders, Schmidt landed four straight aces to bring the Knights up 15-12, forcing a time-out from Holy Cross.
  • Both teams enjoyed brief runs that brought the set to a 20-20 tie. After a kill by T. Fucka and Nott, Holy Cross rallied with five straight points to close out the match.

FDU will play again tomorrow against tournament-host Florida Atlantic University at noon.
